The 2023 One Act Troupe added to the long list of tenured accomplishments by earning five State Awards with their performance of All in the Timing. State WISDAA Awards include the Critics’ Choice Award, Technical Award, Directors Award, and three Outstanding Actor Awards. Italia De La Torre, Emerson Lecy, and Becka Porter earned Outstanding Actor Awards. Director Lizz Thomas was also inducted into the Wisconsin Theater Director's Hall of Fame!
School Board Member, Karen Nordahl, was a guest speaker in the French Culture Class this week. She reflects on the benefits and challenges of travel in her career. Students continue to benefit from this unique and well-rounded curriculum provided by Mrs. McCormack. (Sidebar: Remember a few years ago when these secondary classrooms were dark and musty? Congratulations to Gibraltar High School which was named to the 2023 AP School Honor Roll! The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results and broadening access for students. Schools can earn the Honor Roll recognition annually based on their ability to increase their school’s college-going culture, to provide opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximize college readiness. The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Gibraltar had 69% of seniors who took at least one AP exam during high school,44% of seniors scoring a three or higher on at least one AP exam, and 18% of seniors who took five or more AP exams during their high school careers. Gibraltar currently offers opportunities to take 20 different Advanced Placement courses which offers opportunities for students to earn advanced standing credits at colleges and universities across the country.
Secondary Principal, Jim DeBroux credits three key factors, "Our community continues to support the resources to help our students succeed in these courses - including support for advanced training for our AP teaching staff. We had seven teachers attend AP Summer Institute training for additional professional development this summer alone. Our staff continues to explore new and exciting curricular opportunities for our students, just this year, thanks to staff initiative we were able to add several new Advanced Placement courses in the areas of Art, Computer Science, Math, and Music. Our students continue to take on the challenge of these courses and seek opportunities to stretch themselves academically. I am proud of our work and will continue to work to support our staff and students in these challenges." INTERESTING FACT: In Wisconsin -- only 5 schools achieved Platinum status and 17 Schools achieved Gold Status. Of those top 22 schools, only 10 were public schools. Gibraltar is the smallest public school in Wisconsin to receive this status.

EXCITING NEWS! Mia Glocke (Trumpet) and Olive Wisniewski (Horn) are both in Madison at the WMEA (Wisconsin Music Educators Association) to perform with the WSMA (Wisconsin School Music Association) Middle-Level Honors Band. Members of the band were selected after completion of a rigorous audition process. Both were accepted as 7th graders and have one more year of eligibility. The Middle Level Honors Band concert is scheduled for 5:00 pm, Saturday, October 28 at the Verona High School Performing Arts Center.
