From our Library Crew to all of you, Happy National Library Week.
Monday, April 20: Right to Read Day, a day for readers, advocates, and library lovers to take action to protect, defend, and celebrate the right to read.
Tuesday, April 21: National Library Workers Day, a day for library staff, users, administrators, and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers.
Wednesday, April 22: National Library Outreach Day (formerly National Bookmobile Day), a day to celebrate library outreach and the dedicated library professionals who are meeting their patrons where they are. It is also Earth Day (Environmental Awareness Day).
Thursday, April 23: World Book Day, a day to encourage children to dive deeper into their favorite interests through reading. The focus is on celebrating the joy of reading for pleasure, emphasizing choice, time, and access rather than a single, restrictive theme. It is also Take Action for Libraries Day, a day to rally advocates to support libraries.
Friday, April 24: Arbor Day in Wisconsin is officially observed on the last Friday in April, focusing on planting and caring for trees through community events, school programs, and DNR initiatives. The Arbor Day movement began in the 1800s to promote conservation and beautification of the environment. Arbor Day is a Wisconsin School Observance Day and national observance day to encourage people to plant and care for trees. Enacted May 7, 1980, from the 1979 Laws of Wisconsin, Chapter 214. Although not exactly a National Library Week Day, forests and wooded areas have provided various settings for Adventures in many books to take place.
