Fever

A child with a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater should stay home.
A child should be fever-free for a full 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication prior to returning to school, including when leaving school early due to fever.

Vomiting & Diarrhea

If vomiting occurs, keep your child home until they have been vomit free for 24 hours.
If diarrhea occurs, your child could be infectious and should remain home until free of diarrhea for 24 hours without medication.

Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)

Itchy, yellow/green discharge, crusting of eyelashes are all signs of pink eye. If symptoms occur, your child should stay home.
This may require a doctor’s examination and possibly prescription medication. Once your child is feeling well, and medication has been initiated, your child may return to school.

Rash

If the rash is accompanied by fever, discomfort, or lethargy, keep your child home and see your doctor.
Do not send your child to school with a rash until your doctor has said it is safe to do so.

Lice, Scabies, Ringworm, & Pinworms

Children with these conditions should stay home until treatment has begun. Contact your doctor or school nurse for more specific instructions.

Cold, Cough, & Sore Throat

If your child has a mild cough or cold and is otherwise feeling ok, they may go to school.
If your child has a sore throat with a fever, body aches, or feeling “run down”, keep them home, and the doctor should be contacted.

Remember: Sick children belong at home, and well children belong at school. Students well enough to return to school will be expected to participate in the activities of the regular school day, which includes recess. A doctor’s note is required if your child needs to be excluded from recess or gym class.
