The Wisconsin Standards for English Language Arts outlines seven abilities that students will demonstrate (Wisconsin, 8-9) as a result of their standards-based education. As they approach the culmination of their high school career, students are expected to be approaching mastery of these outcomes:

    • Demonstrate independence

    • Build strong content knowledge

    • Respond to the varying demands of audience, task, purpose, and discipline

    • Comprehend and critique a variety of texts

    • Value evidence

    • Use technology and digital media strategically and capably

Accomplishment of these outcomes is fostered through the standards-based education. Students will be assessed on each of these traits and present evidence of their accomplishment as a Spring Final Assessment during their senior year.

Students, you will be held to high expectations in terms of your individual work, performance, and growth, as well as meeting your responsibilities to the group. The highest priority for you as students is to maximize your learning skills by challenging yourselves intellectually.  The habits that you have cultivated over your years of work both inside the school and in the community will serve you well here. I appreciate your full participation in our classroom community where we always give our best, our best keeps getting better, and we help each other to achieve our collective and individual goals as learners.

Parents, I believe that although upper high school level students are moving towards independence, communication with parents is still very important. Juniors and seniors have varying levels of maturity and decision-making skills are still developing. It is my hope that we will work as a team to help keep our students on track for success in high school, which sets them up for success in life.  Please feel free to contact me as situations arise or just to check in from time to time.
